Having an idea on the general sequence of Angkor temples and Angkor kings would make temple visits more meaningful. He also built over rest houses and hospitals throughout his kingdom. The greatness and all-powerful influence of the reign of Jayavarman VII are replaced by a sense of restraint and humility in sculpture.

When he died inthe French passed over his sons and handed the throne to his brother, Sisowath. Today, the Western Baray still holds huge volumes of water. It is also often mentioned as the jewel among all the Angkor temples.

Face towers of the Bayon represent the king as the Bodhisattva Lokesvara. The oldest known Khmer stone sculptures date to the early 6th century and were found in cave temples which were carved into the side of Phnom Da, a small hill near Angkor Borei.
